The Morro Bay Winter Loon Study Have you recently seen a loon on Estero Bay? You can participate in our study of these amazing birds by taking a few moments to fill out our loon sighting report form.
Many local loons have color bands on their legs that allow researchers to identify them. When you observe a loon, try to determine if it is banded, and note the colors if you can see them. Band combinations can be difficult to see depending on the bird's behavior and the observer's skill, so don't worry if you can't see them all. Just noting if the bird is banded or not is very helpful. Include any other comments you have about the bird's behavior, disturbances, interactions, etc.
Please fill out one form per loon. The minimum values necessary to complete our form are: your name, your email address, sighting date, time, location, and bird species. Our form assumes that no bands were visible, but any band information you can supply is great. Your sighting will be sent to the Morro Bay Winter Loon Study team and used to further their study of loon ecology on the west coast. Your personal information will never be posted or shared. Thanks for your help!
